Biel 2012 / Round 2
.Well – the ‘best’ game in the second round – FOR THE SPECTATORS – was the game between Bacrot and Morozevich. It was a lively affair that featured a gambit (e4) continuation in the Semi-Slav originated by Frank Marshall. Both players were riding on the razor’s edge and when Bacrot sacrificed a Bishop on c6 (Diagram) it appeared that the game would head towards a short and eventful draw. Morozevich didn’t want draw – And – in this he was successful. He fell apart in a few short moves with his King running into the center of the board for execution.
.Morozevich’s second loss in two games. Exciting stuff – but he is capable of much better.
