Anatoly Karpov and Jan Timman played a hard fought and well played match in Groningen from December 26th through December 29th. The first three games (See Comments for PGN files) were all drawn. Don’t be misled, these were not draws that avoided fights; they were just well played and balanced. The players are/were close enough that this match could have gone either way.
The fourth game featured Karpov playing White for his second time. The game was a Queen’s Indian which at first appeared to be headed for a hard fought draw as well. However, Karpov won a Pawn, and despite stubborn resistance, finally netted a point; the single win of the match. Click On The Diagram Below.
