Tata Steel 2018 / Masters / Round 5

by National Life Master Loal Davis

Three hard fought and well played White wins marked the fifth round.

Mamedyarov found an interesting way to play the sacrifice of the ‘c’ Pawn in the Queen’s Gambit.  He ground Caruana down in a fine ending.

Svidler played a delayed minority attack against Hou. Poor Yifan has been a punching bag so far but may well start lashing out.

So played and won a very long ending/game against Adhiban which evolved into a Rook and Pawn ending.
