London Classic 2011 / Round 3

Magnus Carlsen |
Hikaru Nakamura |
| Carlsen had an ‘easier’ position to play throughout most of the game. This is not to say that he was winning, but the style of a game often has a lot to do with winning; meaning that although Black may have been ‘equal’ coming up with correct moves was not so easy. Both players were not at all convinced when/where Black erred, but after Magnus executed a fine exchange sacrifice on move 31 (Diagram), it was extremely difficult for Black to maintain his balance. This was a very finely executed win by the World’s top rated chess player. | |
London Classic 2011 / Round 1
In the first round of the London Classic Tournament 2011, there was only one decisive game – won by the World’s top rated player, Magnus Carlsen.
Tal Memorial 2011 / Final Standings
Levon Aronian had a rather dramatic win in the previous round against Peter Svidler. If Kramnik thought that Svidler would be ‘easy pickings’ in the last round and attempt to ‘cash in’ against a ‘wounded’ opponent, he was sorely surprised. Vladimir Kramnik lost in the final round.
If you think that ‘all opposite Bishop endings are drawn’ – think again. Magnus Carlsen had several opportunities to keep Rooks on the board, but chose to dive directly into an ‘opposite Bishop ending’. Hikaro Nakamura was on the losing end of a finely played ending.
The final two decisive games of the final round of the Tal Memorial 2011 Tournament are in the Comments Section below.
